The Disability Athletics Faire is not competition based; we simply want to bring awareness to adaptive sports and provide a safe space for people of all ages and disabilities to have a great time.
Service Center for Independent Life (SCIL) is the Claremont based nonprofit that hosts the faire. SCIL provides free services to people with disabilities and seniors in the Pomona and San Gabriel Valleys. Our goal is to increase independence and inclusion for all. Our annual faire encourages people with disabilities to venture outside their comfort zones and experience all that they can be. Each activity at our faire is adapted to accommodate all disabilities.
Attendees are able to attend our annual faire at no charge and this will never change. This was important to us as we know first-hand how often income is limited for families with people with disabilities.
Each attendee will receive a complimentary t-shirt and meal ticket; all free!
We will also have a resource faire at our event, tabled by various nonprofit organizations and other disability related companies. Please take the time to check them out, you could gain a lot of useful resources!
Activities at the event include but are not limited to, basketball, soccer, rock wall climbing, martial arts, baseball, bocce ball, golf, football, skateboarding and more!
Jermey Schmidt came up with the idea for us to do a sports festival for people with disabilities. He had recently attended a sports festival in San Bernardino County and thought it would be a great idea to bring the festival to Los Angeles County. He is a volunteer at our center, Service Center for Independent Life (SCIL), and has been actively involved for many years.
